Download Private Facebook Videos

Save videos from private profiles and closed groups — completely free.

Open this link in a new tab while logged into Facebook, then view page source (Ctrl+U).

Why Can't You Download Private Videos Normally?

When a video on Facebook is set to \"Friends Only\" or \"Only Me,\" or when it's shared inside a closed or private group, it's not accessible through a public URL. That means regular video downloaders — including our standard tool on the homepage — can't reach it.

To get around this, we need the actual page source code from the video page. The source code contains the direct video URLs that Facebook generates for your logged-in session. Our tool extracts those URLs and gives you download links.

Don't worry — this process is safe and straightforward. The page source code stays entirely on your device. We don't store or transmit it to any server. The extraction happens in your browser.

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps carefully to download a private Facebook video:

1

Step 1: Copy the video URL

Go to the Facebook post that contains the private video. Copy the URL from your browser's address bar. It will look something like facebook.com/username/videos/123456 or facebook.com/groups/groupname/permalink/123456.

2

Step 2: Paste the URL above

In the form at the top of this page, paste the video URL into the "Step 1" field. A special link will be generated in "Step 2" — copy that link.

3

Step 3: Open the generated link

Open the generated link in a new browser tab. You must be logged into Facebook in the same browser. The page will load showing the video (it may look like a plain video page).

4

Step 4: View Page Source

Right-click anywhere on the page and select "View Page Source" from the menu. Alternatively, press Ctrl+U on Windows or Cmd+Option+U on Mac. This will open a new tab showing the raw HTML code.

5

Step 5: Select all and copy

In the page source tab, press Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on Mac) to select everything, then Ctrl+C (or Cmd+C) to copy it all. Don't try to select just a part of it — you need the entire source code.

6

Step 6: Paste and download

Go back to this page and paste everything into the large text box under "Step 3." Then click the Download button. After a moment, you'll see the available video qualities and download links.

Browser-Specific Instructions

The process works the same across browsers, but here are some specific notes:

Chrome (Desktop): Right-click → View Page Source, or press Ctrl+U. This is the easiest browser for this process.
Firefox (Desktop): Right-click → View Page Source, or press Ctrl+U. Works exactly like Chrome.
Safari (Mac): You need to enable the Developer menu first (Safari → Preferences → Advanced → Show Develop menu). Then use Develop → Show Page Source, or press Cmd+Option+U.
Mobile Browsers: Most mobile browsers don't support viewing page source directly. We recommend using a desktop or laptop computer for downloading private videos.

Is This Safe?

Yes. Here's why:

  • We don't ask for your Facebook login or password — ever
  • The page source code is processed entirely in your browser, not on our servers
  • We don't store any of the data you paste into the form
  • The extracted URLs are temporary and expire after a short time
  • No software installation is required

The page source approach is the only reliable way to download private videos without sharing your login credentials with a third party. Unlike some tools that ask you to log in through their service, iLoveF never touches your Facebook account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to paste the page source?

Private videos are protected by Facebook's privacy settings. The only way to access them without your login is to extract the video URL from the page source code, which your browser has access to while you're logged in.

Can I do this on my phone?

Most mobile browsers don't support viewing page source. We recommend using a desktop or laptop browser (Chrome or Firefox) for the best experience.

It says "No video found" — what went wrong?

This usually means the page source was incomplete or the video was protected differently. Make sure you copied the entire page source (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C), and that you were viewing the correct video page.

Does this work for group videos?

Yes. If you can see the video while logged into Facebook, you can download it using this method — whether it's from a private group, a closed group, or a personal profile.

What quality options are available?

The quality depends on the original video. Typically you'll see SD and HD options. Some videos may also have audio-only (MP3) download options.

Can Facebook see that I downloaded a video?

No. You're simply viewing a page that you already have access to, and copying text from it. This doesn't trigger any special activity on Facebook.

The generated link in Step 2 doesn't work

Make sure you're logged into Facebook in the same browser where you open the link. The link needs your active Facebook session to load the video page correctly.

Does iLoveF store my Facebook data?

No. We don't store URLs, page source code, or any personal data. Everything is processed temporarily and discarded immediately. See our Privacy Policy for details.
